AGOTIME KENTE FESTIVAL
World
solidarity voluntary organization (WOSOVO) invites you to take part in the
celebration of the qualitative Craftsmanship of the kente designs by the
people of Agotime in the Volta region, Ghana.
The Agotime are descendants of the early civiliza tions
ancient Egypt, Ghana Songhai and Oyo Empires which came along with this
distinctive craft of weaving clothe with different designs and traditional
symbols. This year mark the 11th anniversary celebration of the
kente festival. It’s a week long celebration that comes off in the first
week of September every year. Kente, a traditional clothe weaving is
Ghana’s most cherished craft and is loved all over the world. It has
become a mark of identification of Ghana’s among other nations. The kente
industry in Ghana today has developed among four(4) major groups but the
people of Agotime have distinguished themselves in the art of cloth
weaving which has become a major occupation of its men and women. The
kente festival attracts many people form all walks of life: Kings, Queens,
and Ministers of State, diplomats, foreigners, and people from the
Diaspora.
Program of Activities
1st Week

Introduction to the Festival |

Talks on Social Issues E.g. HIV/AIDS, Child
Education, Teenage Pregnancy, and Drug Abuse Etc. Volunteers will b
required to prepare Presentation on the above mentioned Issues. |

Community Sensitization of Cultural
Practices/Displays-Naming Ceremony, Enstoolment of Traditional Chiefs,
Drumming, Singing Dancing Etc. |
2nd Week
The Climax of Festival
 | Durbar of Chiefs, Queen Mother, Elders and People. |
 | Performance By Various Cultural Groups |
 | Speeches By Dignitaries |
 | Fund Raising |
3rd Week
